18 While they were reclining at the table eating, he said, "Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me-one who is eating with me."
18 And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of you which eateth with me shall betray me.
18 And as they were reclining at table and eating, Jesus said, "Truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me, one who is eating with me."
18 As they were at the supper table eating, Jesus said, "I have something hard but important to say to you: One of you is going to hand me over to the conspirators, one who at this moment is eating with me."
18 Now as they sat and ate, Jesus said, "Assuredly, I say to you, one of you who eats with Me will betray Me."
18 As they were at the table eating, Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, one of you eating with me here will betray me."
Matthew Henry's Commentary on Mark 14:18
Commentary on Mark 14:12-21
(Read Mark 14:12-21)
Nothing could be less the result of human foresight than the events here related. But our Lord knows all things about us before they come to pass. If we admit him, he will dwell in our hearts. The Son of man goes, as it is written of him, as a lamb to the slaughter; but woe to that man by whom he is betrayed! God's permitting the sins of men, and bringing glory to himself out of them, does not oblige them to sin; nor will this be any excuse for their guilt, or lessen their punishment.
