27 Therefore the Lord's anger burned against this land, so that he brought on it all the curses written in this book.
27 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against this land, to bring upon it all the curses that are written in this book:
27 Therefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against this land, bringing upon it all the curses written in this book,
27 So God's anger erupted against that land and all the curses written in this book came down on it.
27 Then the anger of the Lord was aroused against this land, to bring on it every curse that is written in this book.
27 That is why the Lord 's anger has burned against this land, bringing down on it every curse recorded in this book.
Matthew Henry's Commentary on Deuteronomy 29:27
Commentary on Deuteronomy 29:22-28
(Read Deuteronomy 29:22-28)
Idolatry would be the ruin of their nation. It is no new thing for God to bring desolating judgments on a people near to him in profession. He never does this without good reason. It concerns us to seek for the reason, that we may give glory to God, and take warning to ourselves. Thus the law of Moses leaves sinners under the curse, and rooted out of the Lord's land; but the grace of Christ toward penitent, believing sinners, plants them again in their land; and they shall no more be pulled up, being kept by the power of God.
