12 Then the woman said, Let thine handmaid, I pray thee, speak one word unto my lord the king. And he said, Say on.
12 Then the woman said, "Please let your servant speak a word to my lord the king." He said, "Speak."
12 Then she asked, "May I say one more thing to my master, the king?" He said, "Go ahead."
12 Therefore the woman said, "Please, let your maidservant speak another word to my lord the king." And he said, "Say on."
12 "Please allow me to ask one more thing of my lord the king," she said. "Go ahead and speak," he responded.
Matthew Henry's Commentary on 2 Samuel 14:12
Commentary on 2 Samuel 14:1-20
(Read 2 Samuel 14:1-20)
We may notice here, how this widow pleads God's mercy, and his clemency toward poor guilty sinners. The state of sinners is a state of banishment from God. God pardons none to the dishonour of his law and justice, nor any who are impenitent; nor to the encouragement of crimes, or the hurt of others.
