9 That which e has been is that which will be, And that which e has been done is that which will be done . So there is nothing e new under the sun . 10 Is there anything of which one might say , "See this , it is new "? Already it has existed for ages Which were before e us. 11 There is no remembrance of [1]earlier things ; And also of the [2]later things which will occur , There will be for them no remembrance Among those who will come [2]later still.
Matthew Henry's Commentary on Ecclesiastes 1:9-11
Commentary on Ecclesiastes 1:9-11
(Read Ecclesiastes 1:9-11)
Men's hearts and their corruptions are the same now as in former times; their desires, and pursuits, and complaints, still the same. This should take us from expecting happiness in the creature, and quicken us to seek eternal blessings. How many things and persons in Solomon's day were thought very great, yet there is no remembrance of them now!
