8 And thou hast filled me with wrinkles, which is a witness against me: and my leanness rising up in me beareth witness to my face.
8 You have shriveled me up-and it has become a witness; my gauntness rises up and testifies against me.
8 And he has shriveled me up, which is a witness against me, and my leanness has risen up against me; it testifies to my face.
8 You've shriveled me like a dried prune, showing the world that you're against me. My gaunt face stares back at me from the mirror, a mute witness to your treatment of me.
8 You have shriveled me up, And it is a witness against me; My leanness rises up against me And bears witness to my face.
8 As if to prove I have sinned, you've reduced me to skin and bones. My gaunt flesh testifies against me.
Matthew Henry's Commentary on Job 16:8
Commentary on Job 16:6-16
(Read Job 16:6-16)
Here is a doleful representation of Job's grievances. What reason we have to bless God, that we are not making such complaints! Even good men, when in great troubles, have much ado not to entertain hard thoughts of God. Eliphaz had represented Job as unhumbled under his affliction: No, says Job, I know better things; the dust is now the fittest place for me. In this he reminds us of Christ, who was a man of sorrows, and pronounced those blessed that mourn, for they shall be comforted.
