24 I have laid a snare for thee, and thou art also taken, O Babylon, and thou wast not aware: thou art found, and also caught, because thou hast striven against the Lord.
24 I set a trap for you, Babylon, and you were caught before you knew it; you were found and captured because you opposed the Lord.
24 I set a snare for you and you were taken, O Babylon, and you did not know it; you were found and caught, because you opposed the Lord.
24 I set out a trap and you were caught in it. O Babylon, you never knew what hit you, Caught and held in the steel grip of that trap! That's what you get for taking on God.
24 You have indeed been trapped, O Babylon, And you were not aware; You have been found and also caught, Because you have contended against the Lord.
24 Listen, Babylon, for I have set a trap for you. You are caught, for you have fought against the Lord .
Matthew Henry's Commentary on Jeremiah 50:24
Commentary on Jeremiah 50:21-32
(Read Jeremiah 50:21-32)
The forces are mustered and empowered to destroy Babylon. Let them do what God demands, and they shall bring to pass what he threatens. The pride of men's hearts sets God against them, and ripens them apace for ruin. Babylon's pride must be her ruin; she has been proud against the Holy One of Israel; who can keep those up whom God will throw down?
