5 Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God.
5 Finally these men said, "We will never find any basis for charges against this man Daniel unless it has something to do with the law of his God."
5 Then these men said, "We shall not find any ground for complaint against this Daniel unless we find it in connection with the law of his God."
5 So they finally gave up and said, "We're never going to find anything against this Daniel unless we can cook up something religious."
5 Then these men said, "We shall not find any charge against this Daniel unless we find it against him concerning the law of his God."
5 So they concluded, "Our only chance of finding grounds for accusing Daniel will be in connection with the rules of his religion."
Matthew Henry's Commentary on Daniel 6:5
Commentary on Daniel 6:1-5
(Read Daniel 6:1-5)
We notice to the glory of God, that though Daniel was now very old, yet he was able for business, and had continued faithful to his religion. It is for the glory of God, when those who profess religion, conduct themselves so that their most watchful enemies may find no occasion for blaming them, save only in the matters of their God, in which they walk according to their consciences.
