51 He is the tower of salvation for his king: and sheweth mercy to his anointed, unto David, and to his seed for evermore.
51 "He gives his king great victories; he shows unfailing kindness to his anointed, to David and his descendants forever."
51 Great salvation he brings
51 God's king takes the trophy; God's chosen is beloved. I mean David and all his children - always.
51 "He is the tower of salvation to His king, And shows mercy to His anointed, To David and his descendants forevermore."
51 You give great victories to your king; you show unfailing love to your anointed, to David and all his descendants forever."
Matthew Henry's Commentary on 2 Samuel 22:51

David's psalm of thanksgiving.
This chapter is a psalm of praise; we find it afterwards nearly as 2 Timothy 4:18. Those who receive signal mercies from God, ought to give him the glory. In the day that God delivered David, he sang this song. While the mercy is fresh, and we are most affected with it, let the thank-offering be brought, to be kindled with the fire of that affection. All his joys and hopes close, as all our hopes should do, in the great Redeemer.
