44 Thou also hast delivered me from the strivings of my people, thou hast kept me to be head of the heathen: a people which I knew not shall serve me.
44 "You have delivered me from the attacks of the peoples; you have preserved me as the head of nations. People I did not know now serve me,
44 "You delivered me from strife with my people;
44 You rescued me from a squabbling people; you made me a leader of nations. People I'd never heard of served me;
44 "You have also delivered me from the strivings of my people; You have kept me as the head of the nations. A people I have not known shall serve me.
44 "You gave me victory over my accusers. You preserved me as the ruler over nations; people I don't even know now serve me.

David's psalm of thanksgiving.
This chapter is a psalm of praise; we find it afterwards nearly as 2 Timothy 4:18. Those who receive signal mercies from God, ought to give him the glory. In the day that God delivered David, he sang this song. While the mercy is fresh, and we are most affected with it, let the thank-offering be brought, to be kindled with the fire of that affection. All his joys and hopes close, as all our hopes should do, in the great Redeemer.
