47 The Lord is living; praise be to my Rock, and let the God of my salvation be honoured: 48 It is God who sends punishment on my haters, and puts peoples under my rule. 49 He makes me free from my haters: I am lifted up over those who come up against me: you have made me free from the violent man. 50 Because of this I will give you praise, O Lord, among the nations, and will make a song of praise to your name.
Matthew Henry's Commentary on 2 Samuel 22:47-50

David's psalm of thanksgiving.
This chapter is a psalm of praise; we find it afterwards nearly as 2 Timothy 4:18. Those who receive signal mercies from God, ought to give him the glory. In the day that God delivered David, he sang this song. While the mercy is fresh, and we are most affected with it, let the thank-offering be brought, to be kindled with the fire of that affection. All his joys and hopes close, as all our hopes should do, in the great Redeemer.
