We all experience different seasons. For one, our earth moves through summer, fall, winter, and spring. More tropical areas might not have those but still have rainy and dry times of the year.
Beyond our physical world, we go through different stages of life, from young to old, failures and successes, grief and joy. Every person has seasons—from the emotional, the personal, and the spiritual.
With such a common and universal experience, we should seek God’s wisdom and how we can find God through such changes. God’s love shares his wisdom through the Spirit and the Scripture, addressing the different transitions of life.

1. Ecclesiastes 3:1-2
Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 states, “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted.” Solomon shares God’s wisdom here, revealing life’s cyclical nature and the divine order established by God in the changing seasons. God is sovereign over all time and events, orchestrating the natural rhythms of life with purpose and intention.
Through these words, we see God as the Creator who has designed the world with a sense of order and timing. The seasons of the year—spring, summer, autumn, and winter—mirror the seasons of life, each with its own significance and beauty just as the earth goes through cycles of growth and rest, our lives, too, experience times of flourishing, change, and renewal.
This famous passage encourages us to recognize God’s hand in the seasons, both in nature and in our personal experiences. It calls us to trust in the divine purpose behind the timing of events in our lives, whether we are in a season of planting, where new beginnings and growth occur, or in a season of harvesting, where we see the fruits of our labor. Every season, whether of joy or sorrow, has its place in God’s perfect plan, reminding us to trust in his timing and wisdom.

2. Psalm 104:19
Psalm 104:19 states, “He made the moon to mark the seasons; the sun knows its time for setting.” We can view God’s handiwork in the natural rhythms of the seasons and the celestial bodies that govern them. God is the Creator who established the order of the universe, including the cycles of day and night and the changing seasons, which are essential to life on earth.
Through Psalm 104, we recognize God’s sovereignty over creation. He appointed the moon and the sun to guide the passage of time. The moon’s phases help mark the seasons, influencing tides, weather patterns, and the natural world. The sun’s predictable rising and setting dictate the rhythm of daily life and the transitions between seasons. These celestial patterns remind us of God’s constant and reliable presence, as well as His meticulous design in creation.
Psalm 104:19 encourages us to see God’s character reflected in the seasons—his faithfulness in the regularity of the sun’s journey across the sky, his creativity in the diversity of seasons, and his providence in the way these natural cycles sustain life. As we observe the changing seasons, from the blossoming of spring to the harvest of autumn, we can be reminded of God’s care and attention to detail in all aspects of his creation.

3. Psalm 1:3
Psalm 1:3 says, “He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.” Psalm 1 speaks of a person and reveals how we recognize God’s presence and blessing in the seasons, using the imagery of a fruitful tree to illustrate spiritual growth and prosperity.
In this verse, the tree symbolizes a person rooted in God, drawing sustenance and strength from God’s Word, much like a tree draws nourishment from a nearby stream. The tree’s ability to yield fruit in its season reflects the natural order that God has established, where everything has its proper time for growth, blossoming, and fruitfulness. Just as the tree bears fruit when the season is right, we, too, experience times of spiritual fruitfulness and blessing when rooted in God and aligned with his timing.
The tree’s leaves do not wither even in difficult seasons, comforting us with God’s provision and care. When we remain connected to God, we can endure challenges and thrive, regardless of external circumstances. The imagery of the seasons in this verse shows that God’s blessings are not random but come at their appointed time, much like the natural cycle of seasons.

4. Jeremiah 5:24
Jeremiah 5:24 says, “They do not say in their hearts, ‘Let us fear the Lord our God, who gives the rain in its season, the autumn rain and the spring rain, and keeps for us the weeks appointed for the harvest.’” The prophet teaches how all people should see the Lord’s sovereignty and provision through the natural cycles of the seasons, emphasizing his role in sustaining life and ensuring the earth's productivity.
In this verse, the rains and the appointed weeks of harvest are not mere natural occurrences but direct expressions of God’s care for creation. The autumn and spring rains are essential for agricultural life, providing the necessary water for crops to grow and flourish. By sending these rains at the right time, God ensures the earth produces food in abundance, demonstrating His ongoing provision and faithfulness to humanity.
Those who reject God have no excuse since the Lord’s care and power can both be seen in the natural order of things. To dismiss God, or choose not to fear him, reveals foolishness and the inability to simply trust what we can observe through the changing and reliability of the seasons.
Jeremiah 5:24 calls us to recognize and revere God as the source of all provision, further challenging us to respond with gratitude and reverence, recognizing the divine rhythm that sustains life throughout the year.

5. Psalm 74:7
Psalm 74:17 states, “It was you who set all the boundaries of the earth; you made both summer and winter.” God not only ordered the seasons but sets boundaries with these times. He means for us to use the seasons as markers to reflect and even order our life.
God, as the Creator, established the natural order of the world, including the cycles of summer and winter, which represent the broader spectrum of seasonal change. With such a reliable system, we can know how to prepare and participate in the seasons. On a personal and spiritual level, we learn the wisdom to prepare our hearts and lives for different transitions, whether future flourishment or coming need.
Every unique season is part of God’s design. Summer, often associated with warmth, growth, and abundance, and winter, symbolizing cold, rest, and dormancy, both play essential roles in the natural world. These seasons illustrate the balance and purpose within God’s creation, where every phase of the year contributes to the overall health and sustainability of life on earth.
As Creator, God is the master of time and space. He set the boundaries of the earth and determined the patterns that govern it. Just as the seasons follow the order established by God, we can trust our lives under his guidance and care. Our current season isn’t the end. Wisdom tells us to participate, prepare, and live with expectation for the next season, brought to us by a loving Father.

6. Daniel 2:21
Daniel 2:21 says, “He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning.” We not only see God’s sovereign control over seasons of nature but also the affairs of human history. God, as the ultimate ruler, orchestrates the transitions and cycles that govern the world.
Just as God brings about the seasons at their appointed times, he also directs the course of history, raising up leaders and deposing them according to his will. The same God who controls the physical seasons also governs the “seasons” of human existence, including the rise and fall of nations and leaders.
The mention of God giving wisdom and knowledge further highlights his role as the source of all understanding. As the one who changes times and seasons, God alone knows the right time for everything, and he grants wisdom to those who seek to understand his ways. This wisdom allows believers to navigate the seasons of life with discernment, trusting in God’s timing and purpose. As we said before, whether good or bad leaders rise, we understand God continues to reign supreme, and he gives us the ability to bear fruit every season through the Spirit and Truth.
By understanding this, we can trust in God’s perfect timing and seek his wisdom as our nations move through various seasons.

7. Isaiah 55:10-11
Isaiah 55:10-11 says, “As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” We observe God’s faithfulness and purpose through the seasons, using the natural cycle of rain and snow to illustrate the power and effectiveness of his Word.
The prophet Isaiah compares God’s Word to the rain and snow that nurture the earth, ensuring that it produces growth and sustenance. Just as the rain and snow have a specific purpose—to water the earth, cause plants to grow, and provide food—God’s Word also has a purposeful impact. It goes out into the world to accomplish his will, bringing about spiritual growth, transformation, and fulfillment of his promises. Like the seasons that bring rain and snow, God’s actions are deliberate and fruitful. His word, like the rain, nourishes us, bringing life and ensuring that his purposes are fulfilled.
God created a perfect and complete natural system that wastes nothing and brings life. God’s Word will also not return “empty.” His Word will always produce fruit and life, and on this, we can trust.
