10 Scriptures to Bless and Protect Your Home

Friend, we are living in quite peculiar times, aren’t we? As many of us grovel for God’s peace, power, and presence, we still find ourselves immersed in concern, worry, and maybe even fear. Just turn on the news or scroll through social media, and a wave of anxiety easily floods our hearts and minds in mere seconds. The enemy is hard at work and strategically targeting the Christian family. Yet, as believers, we have hope!

If the home is truly where the heart is, we must begin there as we take refuge and find our source of protection in the Scriptures. The Bible is very clear and mentions the value and extreme importance of a house built on wisdom (Proverbs 24:3-4), consumed by peace (Isaiah 32:18), and rooted in love (1 Timothy 5:8). In other words, the Lord Almighty blesses the house of the righteous (Proverbs 3:33).

So, today, I invite you to bless your home and welcome God’s mighty hand of protection. As you pray and lift up these verses, you are essentially building a fortress around each room of your home by creating a spiritual barrier that will safeguard your family and all who enter. Whether you just moved in or have resided in your humble abode for several years now, let’s welcome the spirit of the Lord into your beloved dwelling and put your heart (and the hearts of your family) at ease.

Entryway

1. Bless Your Entryway

"You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out." - Deuteronomy 28:6

Father, I ask that You bless each and every person that enters this house. Grant us the ability to show compassion and hospitality through our thoughtful words and actions. Let our home be a place that welcomes and showcases Your love. Amen.

Anoint your doorway with oil as it was customarily done in the Bible by taking an oil of your choice and rubbing it between your fingers, then place it sparingly on the corners of your front doorway. Do this as you pray aloud.

2. Bless Your Living Room

"But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” - Joshua 24:15

Gracious God,
Please be in our midst as we gather in this room. We invite You into our conversations and ask that anything that is not of Your Holy Spirit leave and immediately flee. May our hearts be united in joy, laughter, and the creation of many beautiful memories to come.
Amen.

As you bless your living room, put on some praise and worship music. Let that be your guide and get your heart in the right place to praise God as you move about your home.

3. Bless the Kitchen

"Then Jesus declared, 'I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.'" - John 6:35

Jesus, be with us as we prep and create meals to feed our family. Give us the energy and wisdom to make healthy choices regarding the food we use to nourish our bodies. Help us be grateful for the nourishments You supply and to embrace the often-mundane chores that come along with feeding a family. Amen.

Walk around your kitchen, and as you pray, you can also anoint all outside access doors or windows, as these are points of entry into your home. Welcome the Holy Spirit and cast out any evil.

"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." - 1 Corinthians 10:31

Faithful Father, we are so thankful for Your provision. As we gather at this table with family and friends, allow our conversations to center around You as we posture our hearts for thankfulness. When we come together for special occasions, celebrations, or holidays, help us join in harmony and promote peace. Amen.

As you recite the verse and bless this area, move to each chair around the table and begin to pray for the person who generally sits there at mealtimes.

5. Bless Your Bedroom

"Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him." - Psalm 62:1

O God, as I retreat into this room, I seek Your peace and comfort as I find rest physically, mentally, and emotionally. Create this as a solemn sanctuary and a place for me to also grow spiritually and seek to learn more about You. Calm my heart and provide a sweet spot for me to walk up or retire at the end of the day only to meet with You in perfect stillness. Amen.

This may create a perfect opportunity to ask for blessings over a current season of your life or for your marriage. Ask God to keep your marriage bed pure and offer up a heartfelt prayer for your spouse.

6. Bless Your Child's Room

"I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the Lord. For his whole life he will be given over to the Lord.” And he worshiped the Lord there." - 1 Samuel 1:27-28

Lord, thank you for the beautiful blessing of my child. It is such an honor to be their parent and watch them grow. I humbly ask that You guard their heart and mind. Help them remember their worth and that their identity is found in You alone. Protect them from the sways of this world and seek Truth in Your Word. Give them wisdom and encourage them to grow in their abilities, gifts, and talents. Amen.

You know your child best, so really pour your heart out to God and be specific in your prayers. Ask for His divine intervention and for His truth to be revealed in their life.

Help us play fairly and with humility as we find joy in both the wins and losses. Amen.

Father, please help me see this chore as an act of service and love and remove any grumbles or complaints. I am so thankful that this room provides us with the clean clothes we need. As I wash and clean the clothing and garments of my precious family, please shift my perspective and help me carry out the task with a happy heart. Amen.

10. Bless Your Outdoor Area

"They speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty—and I will meditate on your wonderful works." - Psalm 145:5

Faithful Father, I am humbled by Your creation and the work of Your hands. Thank you for this home and outdoor space, where I can hear and see the birds and animals and watch my children play. Humble my heart and quiet my soul so that I may notice Your goodness and faithfulness. I long to be still before You and soak in Your presence. Amen.

Walk around the outside perimeter of your home and bless or anoint each entry point, praying for God’s love to be fully present. Matthew 7:24-27 also speaks of the importance of building a home on a solid foundation of faith, so reach out and touch and pray over your foundation, praying that your home be held up by “The Rock of our Lord Jesus Christ!”

May these Scriptures and prayers transform your home into a place of peace and rest, knowing that you and your family are being covered and shielded by the protection of the Lord God Almighty.
