Having a baby is an exciting and daunting experience. One moment a husband and wife are “footloose and fancy-free.” The next, the doctor says, “Congratulations! You’re having a baby!” A couple’s life is changed in a heartbeat, and the fact that a baby’s heart forms by the third week of gestation accentuate this. As early as the fourteenth week of pregnancy, the parents can know if they are having a baby girl or a baby boy. Thankfully, the news of a baby is usually one of joy to the parents, yet fears come with the joy. What-ifs sometimes fill anxious parent-to-be thoughts.
But we as Christians have a sure hope in the Lord Jesus because He is our peace (Ephesians 2:14) and because He leaves His peace with us (John 14:27). We can lift every anxious thought to Him. We know he will never leave us nor forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6). And so, when blessed pregnancy comes, and you find you are expecting a baby girl, may the following prayers help you cast all your burdens on the Lord (1 Peter 5:7) and may you praise Him (Psalm 104:33) through it all.
1. From Mom:
Father God, Thank You for blessing us with a new life growing within my womb. I am in awe of You and how You knew our baby girl before the world began. I praise You that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. As this little girl grows inside me, I pray for Your blessing that I carry her well. Give her 10 fingers and 10 toes, and let her be born healthy and whole. Please keep us both in Your righteous peace as You form her inward and outward parts. I love You, Lord. In Jesus’ name, I pray.
2. From Dad:
Oh! Lord God, You’ve made me a father. I lift my wife and my little girl to You for health and safety even as she forms inside my wife’s body. Please keep them both healthy during the whole of her pregnancy. I pray for this precious little girl and surrender her to You for Your purposes. May she grow into a godly girl and woman who seeks You above all others, even me, her adoring dad. Help me to be a good father who points his little girl to You. I pray all this in Jesus’ name and for His glory. Amen.
3. From Both Parents:
Our Father, we thank You for Your strong protection during our pregnancy and the birth of our baby girl. Help us bring her up well through wisdom from Your Word and godly role model parents. Amen.
4. From Grandparents:
Almighty Father. What You have done! We stand in awe of You for giving our child the profound blessing of being parents. Please, Lord, bring them safely through this pregnancy. Their lives are about to change hugely. Help us offer wisdom when needed and help them accept our experience when we try to help. We thank You for the gift of grandchildren and, yes, the incredible responsibility that comes with that role. We surrender them and everything to You, gracious heavenly Father. Amen.
1. Lord God, our little girl is just that, so little! We are amazed that You bring life in this way. Thank You for giving us this little girl to care for, love, and raise in Your knowledge. We dedicate her to You with great joy. She is ours yet is ultimately Yours, and we praise You for that. Keep her safe, Father, and help us to be the parents You have called us to be. Amen.
2. Lord Jesus, thank You for bringing our baby girl safely into the world. Bless us as we raise her to know You as Lord. We pray in Your holy name. Amen
3. Father, we thank You for our baby girl. We know she is precious in Your sight—more precious than we can ever imagine. Help us to love her with a pure love, always seeking her best and Your glory through her. We praise You! Amen.
4. Lord God, as we behold our baby girl, we can’t help but think of the many baby girls worldwide who will never be born because of the evil of abortion. We pray, Lord, that if someone is thinking about putting their unborn child to death, they will see the wonder and miracle of Your creation in our beautiful baby girl. Amen.
1. Father, You created time. Does it go as fast for You as it has since our baby girl was born? We know You are timeless, but we, for now, are held in this time and this place for all You have purposed for us. Our baby girl is no longer a baby, yet she grows ever more precious to us as the years pass. Once again, we remind ourselves she is ultimately Yours, so we pause to think of how we dedicated her to You, the only wise Father.
2. Lord Jesus, please give us peace as we realize our baby girl will soon become a young woman and may seek independence from us. We pray You will hold her fast as she matures. We pray she grows into a young woman who loves You first and foremost. We ask You to guide her in all the choices she will make, whether the choices are about friends or dressing modestly. We pray she will be an avid, joyful, and zealous student of Your Holy Word. Amen.
3. Father, give our baby girl a love for You which no temporal fashion or ideology will corrupt. Fix her eyes steadfastly upon You. May she realize and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ through her words and actions. And may she surrender all to You. In Your mighty name, we pray. Amen.
4. Almighty Father, we rest in You as we watch our baby girl grow up. It’s scary to bring a baby girl (who’s no longer a baby) into this ever-darkening world. As Your Spirit guides her, make her a light that shines for Jesus, the author and perfecter of her faith. Give her wisdom, Father, to enjoy You every day and glorify Your name. Amen.
1. Lord, our baby girl isn’t a baby anymore! As she heads to college, please protect her from the ways and wiles of the world. We have raised her to know You, and we trust You to keep her. But we also know this is a huge change for her. She may be enticed by those things that look like freedom but are traps into possible sin. Please help her stand strong in her faith. We pray she is the salt and light other students and professors need! Thank You, Lord. Amen.
2. Father, we thank You for the mind You’ve given our baby girl. As she ponders all that college offers, we pray for her discernment. That she always chooses the path You have lit for her. Protect her from bodily and spiritual harm as she lives in a dorm so far away from our watchful eyes. Yet we know You will never leave her or forsake her. Thank You, Father. Amen.
3. Lord Jesus, as our baby girl goes off to college, we pray You will direct her to a godly friend with whom she can spend edifying and encouraging time. Let them be as iron sharpens iron, so You will get all the glory for what You do in and through them. If You see fit, our Lord, give her a large group of godly friends and let them be bold for the Gospel.
4. Our Lord and our God. Once again, we thank You for allowing us the privilege of raising our baby girl into womanhood. We are humbled and thankful she loves You with a fervent spirit. Don’t let her fire die as You continually protect and sanctify her. Make her ever strong in Your Spirit as she accomplishes much in Your might. Amen.
1. Father, You know our hearts. You know we are so thankful You gave our baby girl a godly man as a husband. We pray Your loving hand upon this marriage, and we pray You are always at the center of their lives. Amen.
2. Jesus, Lord of all, we praise You for this day. Today our baby girl marries a man we pray loves her as You love the church. We pray Your blessing on them as they begin a new life together. Give them wisdom and joy in You. Amen.
3. Our Lord, thank You for guiding us as we have raised this baby girl. As she marries, we pray for Your will in their lives. We pray for a healthy marriage with each honoring You first and then each other. Let no one come between them, and may they always and ever praise You as Lord. Amen.
Father, we are overwhelmed with Your goodness. We thank You that our baby girl and her husband are now going to have a baby of their own. We are so joyful You will allow us, by Your grace, to hold this new baby and love him (or her) just as we love our baby girl and her husband. Please give them health, safety, wisdom, and the strongest love for You, so their baby will also love You. Amen.
