Your son is a precious gift from God. If you are seeking prayers for your son, you already understand the need to seek God's care and protection over your precious boy. Whether your son is a teenager struggling to find his way or a toddler just beginning to discover his own voice, it's important to lift your son up in prayer.
Prayer should be the first thing you turn to as a parent, not a last-ditch effort. Your son will face temptations, hurt, and disappointment, but we serve a great God that can provide strength and courage for your son if you ask! Here are 8 of powerful prayers that you can use to pray over your son.
Protect my son, Father God, each and every day. As he goes to school, and he comes back home, be his shield and his fortress. Keep him away from the evils of this world. Let no bad influence corrupt his precious minds. Let no accidents fall on him while he's away from home. Allow no physical harm to touch his body. Keep him away from illness. Protect him all the way. Be my son's Guardian in the hours that I am not with him. Shield him from accidents, disease, and other forms of harm. Protect hid minds from evil influences. Guard his hearts against any ungodly character.
God, give my son a deep understanding that his self-worth is found in You and you alone. Your word says that you made us in your image. Remind my son that he was made by your hand and in your image, which gives him immeasurable worth! Give us wisdom as parents to speak this truth with love.
Fill his heart with an overwhelming love for you so that you are the only one he wants to please. Show him the trappings of this world are just that, traps. Show him instead the community and belonging he can have among your people and the joy that comes from following you instead of the world. Amen
Lord, while you would desire our children to surround themselves with people of faith, the enemy would like to surround them with people who hate you. The enemy would love nothing more than for our sons to turn their backs on you completely and to follow in the ways of the world. Please, keep this from happening.
Your Word tells us that bad company corrupts good character. Please help my son to see this. Give him wisdom when choosing his close friends and confidants. Let his inner circle be made up of godly influencers that will point him to you. Give him a desire to glorify you in his relationships and to not give in to the peer pressures of those who don’t know you.
Plant your Word deep in his heart so that he may recognize your truth and are able to stand strong when your Word is being distorted. May my son be a light in dark places rather than the darkness snuffing out the light in him! Amen.
Father, Your Word says to resist the devil and he will flee. That seems so simple yet so difficult. Lord, our sons are faced with temptations everyday. They are faced with opportunities to deny you and to follow the devil. Lord, while we can’t be with our children every second of the day, we find comfort in knowing that you are! You are with them, you see them, you hear them, you know the deepest thoughts, struggles, desires, fears, and anxieties that they have.
You search their hearts and you know them. Lord, give our sons the strength to resist the devil. Give them confidence to stand firm in their faith and to deny that which denies you. Give them a deep love for you so that they will strive to glorify you first; not themselves or those around them. Don’t let them care what the devil thinks of them, give them only concern for pleasing you with how they live their lives.
Make the way out clear when temptation comes, make resisting the devil seem natural and make serving you the desire of their hearts.
We come to You today to intercede for our son in prayer. By the power of the Holy Spirit, we pray for softened hearts for him. As You draw him to You, let the truth of Jesus Christ and their salvation take root in his souls, Father. You tell us not to be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, to present our requests to You. And Your peace, which transcends all understanding, will guard our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7). Search our hearts, today, Father. Renew, restore, and cleanse us. Give us a willing, obedient spirit. We not only want Your peace in our own hearts, but for our children, too! Soften their hearts to understand who You are and Whose they are, in a way only You can, no matter their age. We are reminded, Father, that You are their Creator! You love them more than we ever could! You know them better than we do. You know the plans You have for them. Soften the hearts of our children, Father. Particularly for those struggling with a sinful stronghold, an addiction, or a temptation harassing them. Deliver and heal them, Father.
Lord God, Thank You so much for never giving up on my son. Thank You for loving them with an everlasting love. I pray that You will open my son’s ears to hear the sound of Your still, small voice calling them—drawing them to Yourself. I pray that he will hear you loud and clear, above the noise of the world. Most of all, I pray that he will respond to Your call and be lead to repentance and salvation through Your Son. It is in His name that I pray these things. Amen.
Lord God, I come before You on behalf of my son, praying not only for his physical safety and well being, but for his spiritual walk with You. Of all the things I want my son to hold fast to, it’s faith in Your Son Jesus that we long for most. Please, Lord, hear our prayer today—a prayer for my son's hearts, minds, and souls.
I ask that You speak into this life as only You can—reminding him of who You are. Please show him what You’ve done in the past, what You’re doing in the present, and what You promise to do in the future. At every turn, lead my son to meet You again and again. Make Your presence known to him and comfort them with Your love.
Insert your child's name in this prayer and pray it often:
Create in _________________ a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within him/her (Psalm 51:10). Though you have made ______________ see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore ____________'s life again; from the depths of the earth you will again bring _____________ up. You will increase ________________'s honor and comfort ____________ once again (Psalm 71:20-21). Thank You that Your word says I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate ___________ from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
