‘Lamb of God’ – Matt Redman David Funk – Christian Music
In John, Jesus mentions a great show of love. “Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends,” according to John 15:13. Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice when he laid down his life for you and me.
In the YouTube video for Matt Redman and David Funk’s song, “Lamb of God,” the two musicians sing about Christ’s ultimate act of love, dying on the cross.
The song’s first verse states that the grandeur of a mountaintop or even a beautiful sunrise will top what Christ did on the cross. Nothing has or will ever compete with the “single greatest wonder my soul has ever seen”: the Lamb of God on Calvary. The second verse goes on to mention that neither the oceans below nor the stars in the skies above come close to matching the wonder of His act on the cross.
Through Christ’s death on the cross, He won the victory over sin and death. He was a perfect sacrifice; he took our place. The song’s chorus points this out as well.
“Behold the Son of God
Who takes away our sin
Behold his perfect sacrifice”
Later in the song, the lyrics mention that Christ, because of his selfless act of love on Calvary, is “forever worthy” of our praise. Indeed, Christ is more than worthy of all glory and honor!
Christ died for all humanity, anyone who has lived or is living and who will live on earth. He took all sin and shame upon himself, giving up his life so we may have a chance at everlasting life.
He was a perfect sacrifice, the Lamb of God. Amen, for he alone is worthy!
The day after, John sees Jesus coming to him and say, ‘See here is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!’ (John 1:29).
