Country artist Reba McEntire is one of the most well-known names in the music business. Since breaking onto the scene in the 1970s, Reba has made a name for herself as a talented vocalist and contagious personality.
Today, she’s honoring another great woman of country music, Dolly Parton. At the 2018 Country Music Association’s Country Christmas, McEntire performed a special rendition of Parton’s classic ‘Hard Candy Christmas.’
‘Hey, maybe I'll dye my hair
Maybe I'll move somewhere
Maybe I'll get a car
Maybe I'll drive so far
That I'll lose track
Me, I'll bounce right back
Maybe I'll sleep real late’
Dolly Parton originally recorded this somber song in 1982, and Reba McEntire recorded her own version in 2016 for her album ‘My Kind Of Christmas.’ This powerful performance was part of the annual CMA Christmas special that features country artists singing classic Christmas tunes. It’s always a great musical event to kick off the holiday season. And when McEntire hit the power ballad’s famous chorus, I can’t help but sing along.
‘I'll be fine and dandy
Lord it's like a hard candy Christmas
I'm barely getting through tomorrow
But still I won't let
Sorrow get me way down’
Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton are both legends when it comes to country music, and it’s so amazing to see one of these women pay homage to the other. Christmas and the country always go together so perfectly, and this song is just one of the many great classics of this time of year. What is your favorite Christmas song?
