Contestant Sings A Cappella Rendition of ‘Amazing Grace’ and Even Simon Is Impressed
A young woman on The X Factor UK gave a stunning “Amazing Grace” performance that left the audience on their feet and Simon Cowell thoroughly impressed.
Some songs are so iconic and recognizable that attempting to cover them is normally a path that leads to failure. People, without meaning to, will instantly judge the cover against the original. Aretha Franklin’s “Respect,” “Yesterday” by The Beatles and Simon and Garkfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water” are a few of the tunes that fall into that category.
Another that most certainly belongs in that group is “Amazing Grace.” Within the first couple of notes, everyone immediately recognizes that classic and beloved hymn before any words are even sung.
Knowing that did not stop 21-year-old Chloe Paige from performing the song on The X Factor UK. In fact, Chloe upped the difficulty level significantly. She announced that she would be singing the gospel favorite a cappella.
Simon obviously did not believe the young woman would not do the song justice.
“You’re a brave girl,” Simon told her.
However, despite what some may have thought, Chole quickly changed minds with her stunning vocal performance. Seconds into the song, the studio audience responds with cheers, shouts and applause.
The longer Chloe sang, her confidence only grew and grew. Anyone who watches the clip will notice that as well. She became more comfortable on stage, thrilling the audience and wowing the judges with her show-stopping cover.
The studio audience gives the young woman a standing ovation for her thoroughly delightful performance of “Amazing Grace.”
Simon confessed that he thought she was insane for choosing to sing that song. But Chloe had won him over. He came around. He said her performance of the beloved hymn was worthy of a place in the finals.
What a breathtaking and dazzling display of musical talent while singing about the wonderful gift of God’s grace!
“For sin may not have rule over you: because you are not under law, but under grace” (Romans 6:14).
