A Few Seconds in and All Four Judges Turn for Mac Royals’ Smooth Vocals
An immensely talented vocalist sang a John Mayer hit and caused all four judges to flip their chairs around in the opening seconds of his blind audition on The Voice.
The people who audition on programs like American Idol, America’s Got Talent, and The Voice are simply looking for a chance. Those aspiring musicians hope that their talent catches the eye and ear of a judge or two, sending them into the next round of the competition. But rarely does it happen when a musician is so impressive and talented that every judge on the panel is convinced of an individual’s gifts.
Mac Royals is one of those rare people. In fact, he is so gifted musically that he even managed to get all four judges – John Legend, Gwen Stefani, Reba McEntire, and Niall Horan – to flip their chairs around in a matter of seconds. Mac was only seconds into singing John Mayer’s “Gravity” when they had all heard enough. Mac, they all very quickly realized, is a star in the making, someone looking for a shot.
His audition is remarkable, to say the least. His voice, with its silky-smooth tone, would fit very nicely on the radio right now. He very much sounds like a seasoned professional already.
After his stunning audition, the battle to win Mac over to their team was on, with all of them giving the young man their best sales pitch. They all praised Mac for his voice and what they would be able to help him do with it. Some of them – John Legend and Gwen Stefani – even pulled out merchandise, hoping to influence his decision.
However, in the end, Mac’s coach selection came because of a cherished memory with his grandmother.
“When I was a kid, one of the very, very strong women that was in my life was my grandmother,” Mac said. “And my grandmother passed before she was able to see this moment. As a child, me and my grandmother used to sit and watch the Reba Show. I think I’m going to go with Reba.”
Reba was overjoyed with Mac selecting her as his coach.
“Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;” (Ephesians 5:19).
