Unlocking the Secret to Feeling God's Presence

Many people come to me and say, "I’d like to experience God." I’ve learned to respond, "You already are." The journey isn’t about finding God as though He’s missing—it’s about learning to experience Him. It’s like searching for a pen already tucked behind your ear. You didn’t realize it was there until you saw it in the mirror. In the same way, when we’re saved—when we believe that Jesus Christ died for our sins and rose from the dead, and we desire to grow in Him—God is already with us, cultivating our hearts over time.

When someone has that desire, the Spirit of God has placed it within them. That’s when transformation begins. The Bible says we are to “work out our salvation with fear and trembling” (Philippians 2:12). This takes effort and focus, but it’s powered by the Holy Spirit, who works within us for His purposes. As Titus 3:4-8 reminds us, the Holy Spirit is poured into us, and Ephesians 1:3-4 assures us that we are given every spiritual blessing. The moment the Holy Spirit enters us, we have all of Him. The question isn’t whether we can experience God—He’s already present within us.

Colossians 3:1-4 tells us that we are in Christ, and Christ is in God. Hebrews 1:14 explains that angels are around us. Paul even says in Ephesians five times that we live in heavenly places. God isn’t distant, moving the goalposts for us to reach. Instead, experiencing God is about losing ourselves to Him.

The more I surrender—when the Spirit convicts me of sin or challenges me to renew my mind—the more I experience Him. It’s about aligning my perspective with His Word, whether it’s in how I view marriage, singleness, money, or politics. 2 Peter 1:3-4 says, "He’s given us everything we need for life and godliness." That’s why David says in Psalm 119:105, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” The Word guides us.

Experiencing God means surrendering my tongue, my flesh, and my worldly passions that go against His Word. It’s about dying to my flesh and living in the Spirit, as Romans 6, 7, and 8 teach. The more I deny myself for His sake, the more I grow in Him. Paul puts it perfectly: "I no longer live, but Christ lives in me" (Galatians 2:20).

Experiencing God is learning to lose myself in Christ and letting Him fill every part of me. Stay focused on Him.
