The Colson Center’s Wilberforce Weekend truly is the country’s premiere Christian worldview event. It starts tomorrow evening in Washington, D.C. And here’s the great news: You can still be a part of it, right from the comfort of your own home.
Beginning tomorrow night at 7 PM eastern, we will be livestreaming the conference, complete with talks and presentations by folks like John Stonestreet, Joni Eareckson Tada, Rev. Robert Sirico, Andrew Peterson, ADF attorney Kristen Waggoner, oh, and yours truly. I’ll tell you how you can join us in just a minute.
But first I want to tell you why you should join us. Simply put, you will be mightily encouraged to live out your calling in this incredibly confusing and often discouraging cultural moment.
And God has called you. For this moment. You have a ministry to fulfill—and I’m not speaking just to you pastors or missionaries out there. I’m speaking to you teachers, lawyers, business people, students . . . and even, as Martin Luther once wrote, to you cobblers and blacksmiths, so that your “work may be done for the bodily and spiritual welfare of the community, as all the members of the body serve one another” [1 Cor 12:14-26].
And so, this year’s Wilberforce Weekend is dedicated to exploring what God has called us to: to create, to confront, and to care.
First, we’re called to create.
As John Stonestreet said on BreakPoint recently, God is the Creator. To be his image bearers is to be creators also. Christians should celebrate, encourage, and explore creativity as an essential part of what it means to be human under the lordship of Christ.
We may not all be artists, but we are all creators—of beauty, of business, of opportunities, of families, and so on.
In this fallen world, God also calls us to confront, which is the second part of our theme for tomorrow’s Wilberforce Weekend.
In this difficult cultural moment, we need moral clarity and courage to confront evil realities and bad ideas. At the Wilberforce Weekend, we’ll talk about what it means to confront in even hostile environments, and how to make the case for Truth.
God has also called us to care for the culture around us, and commit ourselves to its restoration in Christ. We must care for the victims of the bad ideas and for the most vulnerable among us.
To help us think about this great calling, the Wilberforce Weekend features Christian leaders like the folks I mentioned earlier, who are creating, confronting, and caring in amazing ways.
Chief among them for this year’s conference is Robert Woodson, Sr., who will receive our 2018 William Wilberforce Award on Saturday evening. He is the founder of the Center for Neighborhood Enterprise (now known as The Woodson Center), which has worked across the country to help the poor become self-sufficient, transforming the lives of countless former drug addicts, prostitutes, and the homeless.
And you can join us as we present the Wilberforce Award and hear from this courageous man of God.
Here’s how you do it. Go to the National Religious Broadcasters website at NRBTV.org/live. Enter your name and email address, and boom, you’re in. For free.
The livestream starts at 7 Friday night eastern, and resumes on Saturday, culminating Saturday evening with the Wilberforce Award ceremony. So join us. Hear from great speakers, be encouraged. And go out and create, confront, and care in the name of Christ.
See you tomorrow at NRBTV.org/live . . . or you can follow us on our Colson Center Facebook page.
