TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE

"But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you." -  John 14:26

SOMETHING TO PONDER

I feel like I need a breakthrough. Because it seems so many areas of my life are stuck in the thick mud of stagnancy, and I just need out. I’ve been running ragged and fighting fatigue forever, putting off specific undertakings for far too long, and struggling through a seemingly unending spiral of physical pain. And though I know perseverance pays off and builds character, maybe there’s something I’m missing, something I need to do, or something I need to help make happen instead of just waiting for the door to open and the path to be smoothly and supernaturally paved.

Is there anything you feel you need a breakthrough with? Maybe you could use a burst of motivation, an inspiration of ideas, or a change to a situation or your surroundings? I’m pretty sure you’ve also had many moments of enough of something or enough of a lack of something. When you’ve hit a wall of frustration or maxed out on patience. And you felt fed up and done with… you fill in the blank.

It’s not lost on me that I was feeling something similar when I opened an online forum that I volunteer-lead on. And a lady was venting about her recent relentless lack of motivation. I wanted to offer some sort of assistance, so I started by more or less saying, “Me too. You’re not alone.” But for the sake of offering more substance and practical value, I proceeded to tell her it might be helpful to pray and see if what she’s desiring motivation to do is truly God’s will. And if she decides it is, and the desire remains, to try to take a step forward in faith, even if the motivation isn't completely compelling her. I told her to prioritize and plan as we would anything we must do.

But that's not the only advice I want to offer you right now. Besides resisting the pull to remain idle and instead to take steps God is calling us toward, perhaps the more critical key to breakthrough lies in this advice: To remember the ever-presence of the Holy Spirit. Remember that he has been guiding us to where we are, is prompting our stirring to take some next step now, and when we meet the task at hand, remember we will have his help then too. He will teach us, instruct us, and remind us of all God’s promises and truths to encourage, equip, and propel us onward.

Simply said, many times we need to basically initiate our own breakthrough. But mostly a breakthrough of perspective. A mindset shift to the remembrance of the power of the Holy Spirit we have in us today, but whose help and power we will have when the time comes to take steps of courage. A remembrance that even if our circumstances don’t see the breakthrough of change we desired or thought we needed, we can remember that it is by the power of the Holy Spirit we can adopt a new filter and focus on what surrounds us. He gives power to our actions and power to our thoughts.

We may desire a certain breakthrough, and our hands can indeed create some specific change. In which case I pray you will lean on God’s strength and be encouraged by the truth that the Holy Spirit’s help will meet you there. But, if you’re longing for something to change that you’re pretty sure there’s nothing you can do but pray, remember there is something else you can do. You can pay closer attention to the goodness and grace God has placed in your life today. You can open your eyes wider to the truth that you have the power now and nonstop to take one small step. You can sing one more song of praise for how the spirit is empowering you in the present. You can experience a spiritual breakthrough. Just the breakthrough you need to prompt your soul, permeate your spirit, and propel your physical being. And you can start right now.

YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER

Lord God,
You are the power that moves me. You give life to my spirit and allow strength to flow out of my soul. But there are times I feel stuck. When I desire a way out and motivation to make a change. But more than anything, I need a shift to a refreshed perspective to see the goodness and blessings surrounding me, and a spiritual breakthrough to breathe life into my unmotivated mindset. I want to remember that you are the Holy Spirit in me, always offering me guidance, comfort, and strength. Lord, please increase my confidence in where you are calling me, and help me remember you will be my hand of help with each step I take. I praise you for always being the breakthrough I long for, and that I can experience this blessing today and every day. In your powerful Name,
Amen.

THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON

1. With what, or in what area of your life, do you feel like you need a breakthrough?

2. How might you look differently at your circumstances if you more fully believed that the Holy Spirit was working in and through your current circumstances and currently offering you the wisdom and power to take your next step of faith

3. Take a moment to thank God for his Spirit that always offers power to your mind, soul, and body.
