Claim Your Prayer Warrior Status

“Epaphras, who is one of you and a servant of Christ Jesus, sends greetings. He is always wrestling in prayer for you, that you may stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured.” Colossians 4:12
When faced with opposition, challenges, or needs, what’s your first response? Do you tend toward self-reliance—try to fix or change things in your own strength—or do you turn to God and rely on His power?
Epaphras, mentioned in today’s verse, prayed fervently, even when facing opposition. I imagine he would stop whatever he was doing to pray when he saw a need for God’s intervention.
I have a friend who lives this way. Recently, I arrived to lead children’s church, ready to encourage the kids that they weren’t too young for God to use. Suddenly, I felt excruciating stomach pain.
My friend saw me hunched over, trying to relieve the cramp. She immediately asked what was wrong. When I told her, she put down what was in her hand, pulled me into a tight side hug, and started praying aloud for relief in Jesus’ name. This didn’t surprise me; she’s always ready and eager to pray even when doing so may seem like an interruption.
Do you have such a faithful, Christ-centered friend? Are you that type of friend—one who intercedes on behalf of your friends, community, country, or world?
That Sunday I shared my message with the children, and I believe I was able to do so because of my friend’s mighty prayers. We all need a consistent and prayerful friend like mine. One like Epaphras, who prays we will “stand firm in the will of God.” May we also this type of person to others. Ask God whom you can pray for today.
