Is Your Life a Light Show?
By Meredith Kendall
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
It was just another day and I had no clue others had been watching me. As a realtor, I was doing the job I cherished. I absolutely loved the excitement when we walked into a home and I knew it was made for my clients.
This couple though, had very little on their wish list for inside the house. Instead we spent days upon days searching for the perfect place to accommodate their 40-foot motorhome. I’m talking about walking asphalt driveways in the heat of the Tennessee summer with rulers and tape measures to make sure they could back their vehicle down the driveway without bottoming out.
The day finally came when they received the keys to their new residence. After the papers were signed and I was walking out of the office, they said, “You’re a Christian aren’t you.”
I asked them why they thought that. They said there was something different with how I carried myself.
Today’s passage in Matthew starts with, “In the same way.” That phrase indicates we need to read the previous words to discover what the author is referring to. Matthew 5:14-15 says, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way…”
We’re to be a light show every day, but how? Not through quoting Bible verses or talking about what church service we went to last week, but by living our life as evidence of Christ in us.
