New Start Every Sunrise
“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23
If you’ve ever completely blown something, you know how good a fresh start feels.
When I was in elementary school, my classes often had a behavior chart. Most commonly it was made using the colors green, yellow, and red. If you behaved, you stayed on green all day. If you needed a warning, the teacher moved your color to yellow. Red was the one you didn’t want to go home to tell your parents about; it meant your behavior needed a big adjustment.
My young son has been in a few classes where the teachers added four or five other colors to this type of chart. I’m grateful, because it’s like a sliding scale where he gets a few warnings before reaching the red zone. Still, he often comes home feeling defeated because his rambunctious personality, lack of impulse control, and talking gets him in trouble.
My mama-heart is forever thankful he gets to start fresh every morning. He gets a chance to make better choices and set a good example for his peers.
Thankfully, and graciously, our heavenly Father gives us a new beginning each day as well. One where we can let go of yesterday with all its stressors and failures and begin anew with Him at the helm. God’s very nature is kindheartedness and faithfulness. When Scripture says He’ll give us another day full of compassion, we can believe it.
Imagine if we correctly trusted these words and awoke invigorated and ready to combat anything. Thank God for His love and assurance that every time the sun rises we have a chance to begin again.
