Matthew 7:24-25

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.”

Train for the storm you are not yet in!

Storms in life are inevitable. Sometimes you can see them coming. But oftentimes the clouds roll out in a split second and the storm is unleashed without giving you a chance to get your mind around what is happening.

The main principle that Jesus is trying to communicate through the parable of this house built on the rock is that storms reveal your foundations.

The house built on the rock survived the storm because it was built on solid rock and the house built on sand did not survive because it was built on unreliable ground.

Just like the houses in Jesus’s parables—whether we like it or not, storms will reveal our foundations.

Therefore, it is important to prepare ourselves for the storms of life. I’m not saying we should live in fear of tomorrow but we should make sure that our foundation is in place so that we are not at risk for being blown over by the fierce winds of suffering when they arrive.

Ask yourself today: If a storm was on its way, would I be prepared to face it? Would I have the inner resources that I need? And if not, then how can I prepare myself for that day?
