Hebrews 12:2

“…looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Because there is a need for faith, there is a need to develop your own faith in God. You grow your faith by choosing what you focus on!

If you focus on Jesus then you will have faith in Jesus. The more of Jesus you see the more aware you become of his greatness, of his mercy, of his power, of the fact that he is the one who raised the dead from the grave. You will see him as the one who forgives sins, the one who sets captives free, the one who told the lame to walk, the blind to see, the deaf to hear. He is the Son of God, sent to deliver this world from its enemy and offer a hope and a future. He is the one who rose from the grave, proving his power and authority over death itself.

There is a beautiful hymn that puts it so clearly “Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in his wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of his glory and grace.”

It’s when our attention is on Jesus that we are able to walk by faith and not by sight—when we are able to focus on things not seen (spiritual things).

When we focus on Jesus we gain courage and somewhere in the depths of our souls we begin to believe that he who started this work in us will bring it to completion, that he who calls us to swim in deeper waters will teach us to swim, that he who calls us to take new ground will teach us the art of war.

And little by little our faith increases … And little by little fear walks away.
