Read Psalm 119:97-104
O how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day...How sweet are Your words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth! From Your precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way.(vv. 97,103-104)
One of the most valuable things you could ever learn to do is to meditate on God’s Word. Have you learned this wonderful practice?
Christian meditation is very different from other forms of meditation. Non-Christian meditation encourages you to empty your mind of everything, to still it, and then see where it goes and what fills it. But the Bible never teaches that kind of meditation. What the Bible teaches us to do is to fill our minds with God’s Word.
The best way to meditate is to take a verse, or a short group of verses. Read the passage slowly several times. Jot down some notes of what the passage means to you. When you’ve gotten all the juice out of it, go back to the passage and squeeze it some more. Read it several times again. Ask questions of it, think about it, turn it over in your mind, pray about it, think about what it shows you about God, about yourself, about life. Memorize it. Think about it all day as you go about your activities. Talk about it with others.
Get into God’s Word and it will get into you!
