“And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.”
Eternal life is not given to us in addition to our relationship with Christ. Rather, it is his life—if you have the Son, you have his life!
When Jesus Christ enters into your life, you’re united with him spiritually. He doesn’t give you eternal life as a separate gift. He gives you himself; it’s his life which becomes a part of your life!
In the Apostle Peter’s terminology, you “become partakers of the divine nature” (2 Peter 1:4). Jesus prayed for us “that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us” (John 17:21).
It’s almost too much to comprehend: Christ hasn’t only done something for us, but he’s shared his life with us! We have been “united with him [Christ]” (Romans 6:3-5)! Jesus is not simply showing us how to live, but he is living in us.
The Lord Jesus wants you to know today that you’re not able to live for him. It’s too hard for you. But he’s able to live that life and you’ve been united with him. He is in you. Why don’t you invite him to live his life in you today?
