“And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’ Then I said, ‘Here I am! Send me.’ And he said, ‘Go…’” (vv. 8-9)
If you read this whole passage you’ll see that Isaiah had a very powerful spiritual encounter with God that revolutionised his life and ministry.
Isaiah had already been involved in ministry. He was already a prophet. He was already delivering messages of judgment on other people. But when he encountered God in all his glory and holiness, Isaiah forgot about the condition of other people. He could only see that his own spiritual condition fell so far short.
When God’s angel came and touched Isaiah’s lips and told him that his sins were atoned for and that God had cleansed him, Isaiah was suddenly very sensitive to the things of God. He could hear the desire being expressed within the Trinity as God the Father said to the Son and the Holy Spirit, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?”
Isaiah stepped forward and became one of the most used men of God in the Bible.
Are you involved in ministry to others? God’s telling you that you need to focus on your own spiritual life, too. You need to encounter God, deal with any hidden sins and find cleansing for a new sense of God’s call on your life.
