Ecclesiastes 5:10-12

He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves abundance with its income. This too is vanity. When good things increase, those who consume them increase. So what is the advantage to their owners except to look on? The sleep of the working man is pleasant, whether he eats little or much; but the full stomach of the rich man does not allow him to sleep.

When you make getting more money the central aim of your daily living, you’re guaranteeing for yourself and your family a life of stress, anxiety and dissatisfaction with life—even if you’re financially successful!

CS Lewis once said, “Prosperity knits a man to the World. He feels that he is ‘finding his place in it’, while really it is finding its place in him.” How right that is! When the desire for prosperity gets into your heart, it replaces God in so many ways.

You’ll find yourself putting your spiritual life on a lower and lower level of priority. You’ll find that the things that stress you are no longer your struggles with sin; now your main stresses are your financial issues. You’ll find that the things that thrill you are no longer a new understanding of spiritual truth, or spiritual breakthrough in someone’s life; now your excitement comes from financial success.

Beware, not of wealth, but of money getting into your heart!
