2 Corinthians 5:14-15

“For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.”

Love for God is more important than love for myself!

Who do you love the most? That is what the Lord is asking you in this devotional today. You see, it is not wrong to love yourself. If your building catches fire and you run to get out of it, was that wrong for you to act out of love for self? No. You can’t help loving yourself!

But it becomes an issue when there is a conflict between loving yourself and loving God. When God wants something for your life and you want something different, who gets crucified? The Bible suggests that we come to God as “living sacrifices”. That is, we love God more than we love ourselves. Not grudgingly, but from the heart! Compelled by his love for us.

How can you grow in your love for God? Learn more about what he has done for you; spend more time with him; worship him, not just with music but with words from your own heart; respond to his leading in your life.

As James 4:8 puts it, “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you”.
