“I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.”
The best place you can be, from Jesus’ perspective, is in the world!
Stop and read Jesus’ prayer for you again. He specifically asks the Father NOT to take you out of the world, but rather to protect you from Satan’s attacks, which you will experience if you are in the world.
Jesus does want you in church meetings and in your small group gathering—to be strengthened for the battle, to be trained to be more effective in the world. But at church or in your small group is not Jesus’ favorite place for you to be. His favorite place for you is out in the world. When you go to school or uni, when you chat with your neighbors, when you interact with the other soccer players or soccer parents, when you say a few words to your waitress at the restaurant, whenever you are interacting with people in the secular world—that’s when Jesus is most happy with you!
Learn to speak with Jesus as you head out into the secular world each day. Acknowledge to him that the world is your mission field that you go out into as a witness for him. Pray by name for the people you know you will be encountering each day, asking God to use you as a witness.
Remember, you don’t have to be an evangelist, but every Christian is sent into the world as a witness for Jesus!
Who are the people you know you’ll be meeting with today? Write their names down and pray that God will use you as a witness:
