There came a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.” For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food. Therefore the Samaritan woman said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask me for a drink since I am a Samaritan woman?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.) Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”
God doesn’t want to leave you empty!
The thing that jumps out at us from this chapter is how much Jesus cared about the emptiness of this woman’s life. He travelled through hostile surroundings to get there. He crossed cultural boundaries to talk to her, “for Jews have no dealings with Samaritans”.
Jesus knew that this woman was thirsting for something more in her life. He also knew that He alone could satisfy that deep longing. So He met her at her point of need and engaged her in a conversation that would lead to the important issues of her life. He offered her “living water”.
Are you feeling like that woman? Empty and desperate for something that you can’t identify? God cares deeply and is ready to meet you with “living water” to satisfy your thirst.
