Psalm 119:81-88

My soul longs for your salvation; I hope in your word. My eyes long for your promise; I ask, “When will you comfort me?” In your steadfast love give me life, that I may keep the testimonies of your mouth. (vv. 81-82,88)

The more your life is focused on the world, the less you will desire to spend time in God’s Word. On the other hand, the more your life is focused on the Word of God, the more you will love to spend time in it.

DL Moody put it this way—he said, “Either this Book will keep you from sin, or sin will keep you from this Book!”

One of the good ways to evaluate your spiritual health is to ask yourself, “Do I love to spend time in God’s Word, or do I avoid it as much as possible?”

Learn to build your life around the Word of God. When you wake up in the morning, read a passage of Scripture with your heart open to God. Think about it during the day. Discuss it with your friends. Pray about what God is saying to you. Join a group of people who are studying the Bible together. Find someone who will be your scripture memory buddy; memorize the same passages as one another and check each other on them.

As you spend time in the Bible, you will come to love it and look for more time to spend in it!
