“Deal bountifully with your servant, that I may live and keep your word. Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.” (vv. 17-18)
One of your main goals in life should be to see and understand the things God has said in His word!
This psalm is the longest chapter in the Bible, with 176 verses, and of these, only 3 verses do not refer to God’s word (God’s testimonies, precepts, law, word, commandments, statutes, etc).
The psalmist had learned how much his life depended on God’s word. He knew that if he understood God’s word, he would understand life. He recognised that the way to know God better was in his word. He had learned that God had placed wonderful truth in his word and that the only way to discover the spiritual truths of God’s word was if God gave him spiritual understanding.
God wants you to develop a hunger for that spiritual understanding too. God wants your heart prayer to him to be about his word. The psalmist here is not asking for other things. The big thing on his heart is that God reveal the deep truths of his word to him.
Today, instead of working through your usual prayer list, why don’t you change the focus of your prayers and ask God to meet with you in his word and “open your eyes” to its truths.
