Philippians 3:12-14

“Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

Make sure that your goals are ‘God goals’, not simply ‘good goals’!

Setting goals in your life is one of the most important things you do, because your goals set the direction of your life energy, what you focus on and move toward. It is important not to simply react to life, but to be pro-active and move with purpose.

However, the Lord is saying to us today to make sure that your purpose is a purpose that flows from his will for you. Paul recognised that he “Christ Jesus had has made me his own” for a purpose. His desire in life was to fulfil that purpose. He “pressed on” to accomplish it.

And all the time, in the back of his mind, spurring him on, was the knowledge that at the end of the race he would go home to be with the Lord. And you will too! What a prize.
