2 Thessalonians 3:13

“As for you, brothers, do not grow weary in doing good.”

Do not grow weary in doing good!

Life can sometimes be hard, can’t it? You get home from a long day at work and just need some me time. You have a date with some friends but just feel like curling up in a dark corner and sleeping. I know this can be especially difficult as an introvert.

What happens when you are going through tough times in your life? When everything you do seems to be putting emotional energy outwards? What happens when you are sick or have a ‘man cold’? This verse seems impossible, doesn’t it?

What happens when we are having a terrible day, and our non-christian friend just wants to unload on us? Or we are in a rush somewhere and we feel God’s gentle prompting to ask the checkout person how they are going? How do we not become weary of doing good – no matter what? How do we consistently put others first? In all that we do.

The good news is this. God never intended for US to be able to do it, did he? He never said, this is what you should do, now go off and do it. Remember the Great Commission and the amazing promise at the end? “And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matt 28:20) So when you are tired of doing good. When you feel like it’s all too much and you are being overwhelmed by life. Remember that the Holy Spirit is with you. He is giving you the strength to do good. He is helping you put others first. Don’t rely on your strength, rely on his.

Take some time to thank the Holy Spirit that he is with you wherever you are. Hand your day over to him and commit to doing good in every situation you find yourself in. Ask for his strength and acknowledge that it is him working through you.
