1 Corinthians 15:1-3

Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures.

There is no salvation without the message of Christ’s sacrifice for us on the cross!

When you think about the people in your life who need to know Jesus, and you wonder what to say to them about the gospel, the truths in this passage of scripture are the core of it. Paul tells us that this is “of first importance!” That is, you might be able to miss other points of truth, but this is one truth you cannot miss if you want to be right with God: “Christ died for our sins.”

There are lots of lessons to be learned about suffering and commitment from Jesus’ death on the cross. But they are not why He died. You feel guilty when you do what’s wrong, and so you should. God made you that way. You know you deserve His judgment. But here’s the awesome news of the gospel God’s reminding you of today: Christ died for our sins! He took the judgment you deserved so that you can experience the love of God that He deserves.
