Proverbs 21:9, 19

“It is better to live in a corner of the housetop than in a house shared with a quarrelsome wife…It is better to live in a desert land than with a quarrelsome and fretful woman.”

Always insisting on getting your own way will make you unliked and unhappy!

These proverbs about a “quarrelsome woman” are obviously written by a man. No doubt many women could coin a similar proverb about a quarrelsome man. A quarrelsome person is a person who will not let go of an issue until they get their own way. This is an un-Christlike attitude—an attitude that insists on getting rather than giving.

Why does a person act this way? They feel that they cannot be satisfied unless they get what they want. They feel a need to control the situation. They think the relationship will be better if they can make the other person adopt their point of view. But the irony is that when they get their way, the other person resents them and the relationship is worse. They may control the situation, but the relationship itself goes bad.

Today God is warning you away from a way of relating that will leave you lonely and bitter. Learn when to let go. Learn to be a giver in relationships rather than one who never stops until you get your way.
