How to avoid living a life of ‘don’ts’
August 23, 2012
“(L)et your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
Matthew 5:16
Back in the 1980s, First Lady Nancy Reagan spearheaded a campaign against drugs that was called Just Say No! I read some statistics recently that said this campaign was successful, lowering the use of recreational drugs significantly during that decade.
One thing that I’m afraid has happened with many Christians today, however, is that they’re using that slogan to live the Christian life. They think, “If I can just say no to premarital sex, drinking, and drugs, then I’m a ‘good person’ in the eyes of God.” The problem with this idea is that it represents a shallow view of salvation.
For too many, being a Christian is so much about the “don’ts” that they forget about the “dos.” The Bible tells us to love our neighbor as ourselves and to be salt and light in the world. We can’t do that just by avoiding sinful behavior. We have to “Just Say Yes” to living for Jesus Christ.
In Christ, the power of sin in your life is broken so that you can live your life to boldly declare God’s grace to others. Don’t be a “Just Say No” Christian. Say “Yes” to living for Jesus Christ!
DON’T GET BOGGED DOWN BY THE ‘DON’TS’ OF THE CHRISTIAN LIFE. LIVE FOR CHRIST BY ACTIVELY SHARING HIS LOVE WITH OTHERS!
