When Marital Conflict Is Good
By David Chadwick
The goal of marriage is for two different people to become one (Genesis 2:24). Marriage partners are vastly different because of gender, background, and DNA. Yet through the Holy Spirit’s mysterious power, two people can become one.
But when a husband and wife grow closer, conflict often occurs. Differences are enlarged. Distance between them can grow.
My dad never thought conflict to be bad. He believed that the closer two people get, the more they bump. It’s normal.
That’s why dad encouraged couples to see their conflict as an opportunity for hope. It shows an obstacle in the relationship. When removed, there is now a greater chance to grow closer.
Conflict becomes a pathway to intimacy.
And two different people continue to become one.
