The Most Important Shot
By David Chadwick
I had played poorly in an important basketball game. Every shot I took was off. I tried to make in-game adjustments, but nothing worked.
My team lost the game as well.
Afterward, I was totally frustrated. I sought my dad’s wise counsel for any help he could give me. I’ll never forget what he said.
“Son, always remember that the most important shot is the next one.”
It’s an important insight that I’ve never forgotten. You can’t redo a shot already taken. If you missed it, you must become an amnesiac. You have to forget it and prepare for the next one.
It’s an important life principle as well. You can’t change the past. It’s gone! But you can learn from your mistakes and focus on the next opportunity.
Dad was correct: The most important shot is the next one.
It’s true in basketball… and in life as well.
