The Enemy

For love to exist, three characteristics must be present. First, there is the lover. Next, there is the beloved. Finally, there is a forever covenant.
God is love (1 John 4:8). Therefore, God must have these same characteristics for his love to operate.
That’s why the doctrine of the Trinity makes sense. God is one in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The object of their love is one another. And there is eternal faithfulness to one another.
God wanted his love to be extended to others. Therefore, he created the angels – millions of them – to receive his love (Colossians 1:16).
God also created humans – men and women – as objects of his love. We were created in his image, with his ability to love other humans as well.
In eternity past, one of the chief angels led a rebellion in heaven (Revelation 12:7-12). One- third of the angels rebelled with him. These fallen angels are now a demonic horde, solely devoted to their leader.
This angel’s name is Satan. After his rebellion, God cast him and his followers out of heaven. He now roams earth looking for vulnerable humans. He has committed himself to destroying everything that God has created.
As you enter this new year, please know your enemy. His job description is to kill, steal, and destroy (John 10:10). His power is great. And he’s armed with hate.
But do not fear. During this month, you will see his wiles and tricks.
And you will see your victory in Jesus.
Just keep reminding yourself that Satan is a mere creature, but God is the Creator. Satan is on a leash.
And if you love God, no weapon formed against you will prosper (Isaiah 54:17).
