Share Your Heart
by David Chadwick
I was going through a difficult time. Ministry had become too burdensome. I was ready to quit. My wife, Marilynn, and I went away for a few days alone. I was trying to figure out if I could continue doing ministry.
One night, I couldn’t sleep. Marilynn asked me what was wrong. I didn’t want to admit my weakness. She insisted. Finally, I relented. The dam burst. Tears flowed. I shared with her everything that was happening in my heart.
Then I began to feel embarrassed. Marilynn had seen me in my weakest moment. Did she think less of me? She shocked me with her response.
“David, I believe in you.” Then she squeezed my hand and said it again. “I believe in you.” The trajectory of my life was forever changed. Courage returned. New hope filled my heart. I knew that I could continue.
What Marilynn wanted to hear was my heart. She desired to be strong when I was weak. She felt a call to help me carry my burdens.
But it couldn’t happen unless I was willing to share my heart with her. Husbands, honor your wife by sharing your hearts. They want to be strong for you. Let them!
These conversations between a husband and wife should begin in courtship. They are supposed to continue in greater depth throughout your marriage. But husbands and wives must be intentional about planning them. When you do, the two of you will become one – God’s will for all marriages (Genesis 2:24).
Discover God’s path to a better marriage
A key to making your marriage the best it can be isn’t a secret. God commands spouses to give honor to one another – and blesses them for doing so!
David Chadwick and his wife, Marilynn, unpack the biblical meaning of honor in these two special books, Eight Great Ways to Honor Your Husband and Eight Great Ways to Honor Your Wife.
You’ll find humor, humility and a passion for Christ that will inspire you to love your spouse in new ways that:
- Reignite the “spark” you remember
- Deepen trust and the intimacy you long for
- Connect you to God’s original and joy-filled intent for marriage
Both books are our way of saying thanks for your gift below to help share Jesus and the life-changing new perspective He gives.
