Respect Her Opinion
By David Chadwick
We husbands are often “Captain Oblivious” with our wives. We live disconnected from them. They often have insights that could help us in many different areas.
Our wives are often trying to transmit signals to us. But, like radio waves needing a transmitter for sounds to be heard, we don’t have our transmitters turned on. And if they are on, we have our dials set just a few numbers away from the signals. We only hear garbled gurgles and static sounds.
If husbands want to honor their wives as the Bible commands (1 Peter 3:7), then we need to learn how to listen to their voice and respect their opinion.
Think about these verses from Solomon:
- “Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance” (Proverbs 1:5 ESV).
- “An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge” (Proverbs 18:15).
Wise people hear the wisdom of others. Why not apply this truth to our marriages?
Husbands, learn from your wives. Ask her opinion on matters in your life. If needed, write out what she says.
When you do, you will avoid making some mistakes.
And you will honor your wife – as God desires.
Recover the lost art of honor – and improve your relationships!
Strong, healthy relationships require honor –because people must treat each other with respect in order to develop trust and love. That’s why the Bible commands us to honor our brothers and sisters in Christ.
But that’s not always easy – especially when others frustrate us.

This powerful, four-part series will teach you…
