People Make Lousy Gods
By David Chadwick
I want people to like me. Regrettably, I have worked hard for their approval and if I didn’t receive it, I’d work even harder.
How futile!
When my dad saw this problem in me, he spoke some wise words to me. “Son,” he said, “don’t worry about what other people are thinking of you. They are not thinking about you at all. They are too busy thinking about themselves.”
His words helped set me free. If you work for people’s approval, you will be forever paralyzed by their fickle opinions.
If this is your problem, hear my dad speak to you as well: They aren’t thinking about you. They are too busy thinking about themselves.
Thanks, Dad. People do make lousy gods.
