Welcome! You’re Now a Priest!
SEPTEMBER 4
But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. 1 Peter 2:9
Christians are a kingdom of priests, so in order to understand what that means, let’s look at what someone had to do to become a priest in the Old Testament:
- First, a priest had to bathe from head to toe, symbolizing he was saved (see Titus 3:5). When we are saved, we are bathed from head to toe in Christ’s cleansing blood.
- After his bath, he received a linen garment, symbolic of the righteousness provided by our Lord.
- Then he was anointed with oil, symbolic of the Holy Spirit’s anointing.
In the Old Testament priesthood, you see
(a) the atoning blood
(b) being clothed in the righteousness of Jesus Christ
(c) being anointed with the Holy Spirit.
God’s Word flows in beautiful harmony from the Old Testament in analogy into the New Testament in reality as Jesus Christ becomes the fulfillment of the Law and our atoning sacrifice.
Have you been bathed in the cleansing blood? Are you aware you’re wearing the righteous robe of Christ and the Holy Spirit lives within you? As you go through your day today, be ever mindful: you are a priest. You are chosen, royal, holy, set apart for Him.
