September 28, 2023 – Do You Seek Counsel from Your Creator?
Psalm 121:1-2
Sermon: 2320 How to Praise Your Way to Victory
Pray Over This
“I will lift up my eyes to the hills—from whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”
Psalm 121:1-2
Ponder This
The psalmist’s first thought was not his last resort. He didn’t turn to the Lord after he’d tried everything else like so many of us do. The very first thing he did when trouble came was seek the Lord. That’s what Jesus told us to do. “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness” (Matthew 6:33).
Let me tell you something that seems backward. You might be getting in the way by trying to solve someone’s problem. The problem may be God’s way to bring that individual to Himself. Rather than trying to solve the problem, the best thing might be simply to encourage that individual to seek the Lord. A problem is an opportunity to seek God in times of trouble. At the very least, we seek the Lord as we seek to solve problems. Hebrews 4:16 says, “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” We have times of need. We can come boldly to the Lord and establish our purpose to seek Him.
- Have you ever tried to solve someone’s problems without pointing that person to God? Why might that lead to further trouble?
- When has someone counseled you to seek God? How has He met you in these moments?
Practice This
When you speak to a friend today, remind him or her to seek God.
