Do You Honor the Lord’s Day? - Love Worth Finding - May 9

May 9, 2023 – Do You Honor the Lord’s Day?

Hebrews 4:11

Sermon: 1856 How to Make the Rest Day the Best Day, Part 1

Pray Over This

“Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience.”

Hebrews 4:11

Ponder This

When I stand under the sun outside, I can see my shadow. The light is up there, the shadow is down there, and I am there in middle. Have you ever seen a dog chasing the shadow of a bird on the ground? He’s chasing the shadow, but the bird is up there. When people try to keep the covenant Sabbath according to the Old Testament, they are only chasing shadows. The Sabbath was a shadow of the Lord Jesus Christ. The substance is Christ. The Sabbath is the shadow that pointed to the substance. Don’t miss Jesus! That’s the reason Jesus said in Matthew 11:28, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” He is your rest. He has made you a new creation. He is now sitting at the right hand of the Father. It is done. It is finished. It is paid in full. The Lord Jesus is our finished rest.

The reason we gather for worship on Sunday is because Jesus broke the bonds of death and came out of the grave upon the first day of the week! Revelation 1:10 calls the first day of the week, “the Lord’s Day.” The Sabbath was never called the Lord’s Day in the Old Testament, but the new creation Calvary Sabbath is called the Lord’s Day.

  • How has Jesus given you rest in Him?
  • What changes when you think about Sunday as the Lord’s Day, not just a general day to rest?

Practice This

Intentionally plan a restful and worshipful Lord’s Day this week.
