Your Eyes Will Be Only on Him
MAY 29
…looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2
Tigranes is believed to be Armenia’s greatest king. He ruled from about 95 B.C. to 55 B. C. He was captured by the Roman army. They took Tigranes in chains with his family, his lovely wife and his beautiful children, to stand before the Roman general to receive the sentence of death.
Tigranes was a brave, courageous warrior, but when he came before the Roman general, he fell on his face before him saying, “Take me and do what you will, but spare my wife and my children! They've had no part in this. Do with me as you will! Anything you want! But I plead with you, spare my wife and my children!"
The Roman general was so moved by his plea that he released them all—the king himself, his wife, and children. Later on, Tigranes was speaking to his wife, and he asked, "Did you notice in the Roman's throne room the beautiful tapestries on the wall?"
She said, "I didn't see them."
"Did you notice the ivory throne?"
"I didn't see it," she replied.
"Did you notice the look on his face?"
"I didn't see it, either."
"Woman,” he asked, “where were your eyes?"
"My eyes were on the man who was willing to die for me. I had eyes for no one else but him.”
Are your eyes on the One who was willing to die for you, Jesus Christ? Would it be true to say you have eyes for no one but Him? Bravely run the race, looking to Jesus and nothing else, because He is the Author and He is the Finisher of our faith.
